Planning Notes

A selection of our responses to a selection of significant planning applications and consultations.

2022: Johnson Drinking Fountain

In 2022 we objected to the application by South Holland District Council to position the Johnson Drinking Fountain in Ayscoughfee Gardens. This application was under reference H16-0704-22 and H16-0705-22. Our Objection can be found on the link below.

Outcome

The application was approved on 6 October 2022. You can find the application and the planning officer’s report on the South Holland District Council’s planning portal here.

2023: 88 bed care home on the site of the Bull & Monkie

This was an application for the demolition of vacant Bull & Monkie public house and erection of 88 bed care home including onsite parking amenity space and associated works. The applicant is Crispen Holdings Ltd, a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands who have owned the site since 1 August 2008. The application was made under reference H16-0767-23.

Outcome

The application decision was deferred following a substantial number of objections including including ours and the area’s MP Sir John Hayes. The planning officers report dated 11 April 2024 can be found in the Decisions section of the documents accompanying  the application on the South Holland District Council’s planning portal  here.

2025: 88 bed care home on the site of the Bull & Monkie - amended plans

Following the deferral of the decision in 2023,   Crispen Holdings Ltd’s agent RDT Architects Ltd, lodged revised plans.

However they did not correct the errors we had identified in their original Heritage Impact Assessment or update any of the other supporting documents to take into account the changes they had made.

Whilst the proposal including some changes, the fundamental reasons for our original objection were not addressed. We therefore lodged a further objection. The revised plans can be found on South Holland District Council’s planning portal under reference H16-0767-23

Outcome

The application was approved by the planning committee subject to the applicant meeting a number of conditions.  As such the application has not yet been formally approved. However the planning officers report dated 17 July 2025 can be found in the Decisions section of the documents accompanying  the application on the South Holland District Council’s planning portal here.

2025: Barclays Bank - change of use to betting shop

This was an application to change the former Barclays Bank to a betting shop. The original application can be found on South Holland District Council’s planning portal under reference H16-0518-25.

Outcome

The plans were amended following our objection, which resulted in more of the original bespoke frontage being retained and the original proposal for internally illuminated signage was withdrawn. Unbelievably, despite a number of objections this application was approved by a delegated officer decision meaning that elected members of the Council’s planning committee were not given the opportunity to have their say.
